Note That

Beatrice Agbi

the way you take darkness and make it moan*

puts us in a feeling between ow and thank you

for your service. Says you’re welcome to the unknown

as it creates firecrackers beneath closed eyelids. Has us mistaking

warmth for burn for teacher. You are my teacher, in that you have

taught me how to take this hodgepodge olio concoction

of emotion and connect a path through adolescence

that doesn’t involve pain or laughter but the valley between the two.
